It’s time for Mardi Gras. It’s time for Valentines. It’s time for runs and festivals. Here’s our list of the best events around Homewood this month.

1. Samford Legacy League Scholarship Luncheon        

Thursday, Feb. 7 | 11:30 a.m.

Come out to hear Jodie Berndt (jodieberndt.com), author of nine books including the Praying the Scripture series and Generous Living, share biblical insights and a dose of humor at Samford Legacy League’s Scholarship Luncheon. The event benefits scholarships for students with significant financial needs and challenging circumstances, and will take place at a country club in Vestavia. 2. Valentines Dinner Theatre: Love Letters

Saturday, Feb. 16 | 6:30 p.m.

Homewood Public Library

South City Theatre will come to our very own Homewood library to perform this uplifting comedy by A. R. Gurney. The fun starts with a buffet and the show follows. Tickets are $35 for both. Tickets must be purchased in advance between Jan. 7 and Feb. 8 at the Adult Services Desk or homewoodpubliclibrary.org.

3. Steeple 2 Steeple Run

Saturday, Feb. 23 | 7:30 a.m.
Starts at Seeds Coffee

is proud to present the Fifth Annual Steeple to Steeple Run! This annual 5K and 10K is moving to February this year, with its start and finish line at Seeds Coffee in West Homewood. Both races, and the Sleep-In option, benefit the United Methodist Children’s Home. Find more information and register here.

4. Shades Cahaba Winter Festival

Come out for fun and games for the whole family all to benefit Shades Cahaba Elementary’s PTO.

5. Disney in Concert: Tale as Old as Time

Saturday, Feb. 23 | 7 p.m.
Samford University Wright Center

Experience a magical journey into storytelling and music with selections from Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, The Lion King and more performed by Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Get tickets here.

6. Fairy Tale Festival

Thursday, Feb. 28 | 6-6:45 p.m.
Homewood Public Library

Dress up in your favorite costume and join the library for a night of family fun for all ages. It all comes with theme of “three” this year: Three Billy Goats Gruff, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Three Little Pigs.

7. Lil’ Lambs Consignment Sale

(Technically in March but we’ll count it.)

Trinity United Methodist Church Gym

Stock up on your kids’ wardrobes for spring and summer at reasonable prices at Trinity UMC’s consignment sale. They’ll also have toys and furniture, and proceeds from sales go to fund mission and outreach projects locally abroad and abroad. Many items will be half-price on Saturday, and all unsold items marked “donate” at the end of the sale will be shared with Trinity’s Modern Family Ministry Closet and My Child’s Closet to help families in need. MOMS Club Mardi Gras Parade

Homewood Central Park

Watch out for flying beads and moon pies at the park this afternoon as kid “floats” of strollers and wagons take over the park leading up to Mardi Gras. All are welcome, kids are invited to bring instruments and we hear there will be king cake afterward at this MOMS Club, Over the Mountain chapter event. Laissez les bons temps rouler (“Let the good times roll”)!
