It’s time for Mardi Gras. It’s time for Valentines. It’s time for runs and festivals. Here’s our list of the best events around Homewood this month.

1. Lil’ Lambs Consignment Sale

Jan. 31-Feb. 1
Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-noon
Trinity United Methodist Church Gym

Stock up on your kids’ wardrobes for spring and summer at reasonable prices at Trinity UMC’s consignment sale. They’ll also have toys and furniture, and proceeds from sales go to fund mission and outreach projects locally abroad and abroad. Many items will be half-price on Saturday, and all unsold items marked “donate” at the end of the sale will be shared with Kids Connection and Trinity’s Children’s Clothing Closet to help families in need.

2. Valentines Dinner Theatre: The Odd Couple (Female Version)

Feb. 14 & 15 | 6:30 p.m.
Homewood Public Library

South City Theatre comes to our very own Homewood library to perform this Neil Simon play that sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. The fun starts with a buffet and the show follows. Tickets are $35 for both. Tickets must be purchased in advance between Jan. 13 and Feb. 12 at the Adult Services Desk or homewoodpubliclibrary.org.

3. Isn’t it Romantic

Feb. 20-23 & Feb. 27-March 1
Thursday-Saturday 7:30 p.m., Sunday 2:30 p.m.
Homewood Theatre at Brookwood Village

Come out to see this story of hilarious and touchingly revealing post-college careers of two former classmates as they struggle to establish their own lives and identities. Tickets are $20 and can be ordered at homewoodtheatre.com.

4. Birmingham Ballet Presents Sleeping Beauty

Feb. 21-23
Samford University Wright Center

This classic with music by Tchaikovsky is filled with exquisite costumes and vivid storytelling. It will take you to a  world where love conquers all and true love’s kiss breaks the spell to awaken the beautiful princess Aurora to happily ever after. Get tickets here.

5. Shades Cahaba Winter Festival

Saturday, Feb. 22 | 12-4 p.m.
Shades Cahaba Elementary School

Come out for fun and games for the whole family all to benefit Shades Cahaba Elementary’s PTO.

6. MOMS Club Mardi Gras Parade

Tuesday, Feb. 25
3:45 p.m. Lineup, 4 p.m. Parade
Homewood Central Park

Watch out for flying beads and moon pies at the park this afternoon as kid “floats” of strollers and wagons take over the park leading up to Mardi Gras. All are welcome, kids are invited to bring instruments and we hear there will be king cake afterward at this MOMS Club, Over the Mountain chapter event. Laissez les bons temps rouler (“Let the good times roll”)!

7. Steeple 2 Steeple Run

Saturday, Feb. 29
Patriot Park

This annual 5K, 10K and Fun Run are in February for the year, with its start and finish line at Patriot Park in West Homewood. Both races, and the Sleep-In option, benefit the United Methodist Children’s Home. Find more information and register here.

8. Alabama Symphony Orchestra Presents Nat King Cole Songbook

Saturday, Feb. 29 | 7 p.m.
Samford University Wright Center

Join the ASO as Denzal Sinclaire brings the music of Nat King Cole to life with his superlative voice and engaging rapport. This tribute to Alabama native Nat King Cole includes ten of the most unforgettable hits made famous by one of America’s greatest jazz vocalists. Get tickets here.

Taste of Homewood 2020

Make sure you mark on your calendar to come eat all of Homewood in one night with samplings from more than 25 Homewood-area restaurants, caterers, bakeries, coffee shops and beverage merchants. Proceeds go to the Homewood Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship fund for local students as well as economic development efforts in the community. For tickets, visit homewoodchamber.org.
