1. Made Market

Beacon People and 410 Collective will host more than 20 local artists and other vendors, and most of them are from Homewood too. It sounds like the perfect Mother’s Day shopping opportunity to us. 

2. Library Cooperative 40th Birthday Bash

Friday, May 4 | 6-8 p.m.
Homewood Public Library Parking Lot

Bring the entire family to celebrate all 40 local libraries. You’ll find birthday cake, a bounce house, face painting, balloon making, crafts, and a photo booth. While you are there, sign up for a library card, get information about the summer reading program, and more. Plus, find more library events here.

3. We Love Homewood Day

Homewood Central Park & Edgewood

It’s time for Homewood’s favorite day, so get ready to have fun with neighbors and friends. Check out the schedule below so you know what’s going on where.

  • 10 a.m.-4 p.m.- Rides & Inflatables, $15 for unlimited wristband or purchase individual tickets
  • 10 a.m.-4 p.m.- Vendor Expo
  • 10 a.m.-1 p.m.- Homewood Rotary Club Bake Sale
  • 1 p.m.- HHS Patriot Band Pep Rally/Concert
  • 6 p.m.- Parade Starts at Homewood Public Library & Travels to the Edgewood Business District
  • Parade End-9:30 p.m.- Street Dance in Edgewood

3A. Strawberry Festival

Saturday, May 5 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Urban Cookhouse

Urban Cookhouse’s Homewood location is selling strawberries and giving away free strawberry lemonade and strawberry milkshakes to celebrate berry season.

4. We Love Homewood Day 5K

Saturday, May 5 | 7:30 a.m.
Homewood Central Park

Make a running start on Homewood’s favorite day on this with a mostly flat course in Edgewood. Sign up at runsignup.com by May 3.

5. Motherwalk

Saturday, May 12 | 8 a.m.
Homewood Central Park

Walk to support the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation, or join in on a 1-Mile Fun Run for the same cause. Register at motherwalk.com.

6. Pancake Breakfast, Garage Sale & Silent Auction

Saturday, May 12 | 7 a.m.-Noon
Trinity United Methodist Church

Eat breakfast, shop and support local scouts all at once at this annual event held by By Scout Troop 97.

7. I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change

May 17-19 | 7:30 p.m.
The Dance Foundation

ome out to see this musical comedy which just so happens to be the second-longest running Off Broadway musical. Presented in the form of a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of love and relationships, its tagline is “Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit.” Get your tickets from Homewood Theatre here.

8. Friends of the Homewood Public Library $5 Bag Sale

Sunday, May 20 | 2-4:30 p.m.
Homewood Public Library Friends Bookstore

Fill a grocery bag with books, movies and other items for only $5 per bag! The bags are provided by the Friends of the Homewood Public Library. To donate books or for more information, contact the Friends Bookstore at 205-332-6651.

9. Birmingham Boys Choir Concert

Sunday, May 20 | 4 p.m.
Dawson Memorial Baptist Church

Come out to hear choral pieces sign young boys’ voices from a choir that’s been around for more than 50 years. Learn more here.

10. Pool Opening Day

Friday, May 25 | 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Homewood Central Pool

This day makes summer official when Homewood’s favorite pool opens for regular hours. You know where we’ll be ‘til school starts. Hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m. Find more pool info here.

11. Rockstar Summer Reading Kick-Off

Gutsy the Flying Fox will get you pumped up for reading with his acrobatic tricks. Sign up for summer reading, decorate your own pet rock and eat a snack while you are there. Plus, find more library events here.

12. Brookwood Live

Thursdays, May 3, 10 & 17 | 5-9 p.m.
Brookwood Village

Hear live music, dine al fresco, get your face painted and dance the night away at your pick of one, two or three of these events. See Even Odds (soul, disco, blues and hip-hop) on May 3, Bonus Round (crowd-pleasing covers) on May 10, and The American Flyers (“dance music” from many genres) on May 17.

Join West Homewood friends for food and festivities at this event, which moved from  May to June this year.

2. Vulcan Birthday Bash

Sunday, June 3 | 12-4 p.m.
Vulcan Park & Museum

The Big Guy is turning 114, so join in for a celebration with all kinds of family fun. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children, or free for Vulcan Park and Museum members and children 4 and under.

3. West Homewood Market

Tuesdays Starting in June | 5-8 p.m.
160 Oxmoor Road

Pick up farm-fresh produce and dinner from your favorite food trucks. Plus shop around at arts and crafts vendors or take in some live music. The market runs the first Tuesday of June through the first Tuesday of August. Learn more at westhomewood.com.
