1. Sims Garden Pumpkin & Mum Sale

2. Jimmie Hale Mission Rescue Run 5K & Fun Run

Saturday, Oct. 10
Downtown Homewood

This inaugural run will start and finish on 29th Avenue South near Dave’s Pizza and will feature live music, kid’s zone, appearances by Big Al & Aubie, cornhole and a block-party. The race will culminate after the awards ceremony with an after-party hosted at Dave’s Pizza, and a portion of purchases will go directly to the Jimmie Hale Mission. This race will honor the loving memory of Homewood native, Douglas Benjamin Barnes to support those who are affected by homelessness. Register at runsignup.com.

3. Shop Save & Share

Shops Throughout Homewood and Birmingham

We’re all about an excuse to shop for a good cause, and you can’t beat the Junior League of Birmingham’s Shop Save & Share fundraiser. A digital or printed Shop Save & Share card costs $40, and then you receive a 20 percent at more than 400 participating businesses—including many in Homewood. You can purchase and download a card at ShopSaveandShare.net or at select retailers.

4. (Virtual) Dinnertainment

Thursday, Oct. 22 | 7 p.m.

This year’s annual night of musical and artistic performances showcasing our Exceptional Foundation participants is going virtual. Sponsorships include a catered meal to-go and full virtual access the live stream from The Exceptional Foundation and benefit the nonprofit’s programs for its 750 participants. Registration is now open on the foundation’s website.

5. BOO Run for Down Syndrome 10K, 5K & 1-mile Fun Run

Red Mountain Park

Wear your costume and get ready for a trail run or walk to benefit individuals with Down Syndrome. Individuals with Down Syndrome may enter any race at no charge and can register at the race. Find more information and/or here.

Holiday Open House Market Days

Nov. 5-11

Kick off the holiday shopping season at your favorite Homewood shops! In place of the Homewood Chamber of Commerce’s traditional Holiday Open House, you can shop all week. Catch live performances each day at 3 p.m. on 18th Street, and you can send three receipts from Homewood businesses to the chamber to be entered to win a Homewood gift card every day that week.

(Virtual) Market Noel

Nov. 16-22

This annual Junior League of Birmingham holiday shopping event is moving online follow COVID-19 safety precautions. With the purchase of a $15 General Admission ticket, you get access to its virtual marketplace with more than 50 stores from across the nation Tuesday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020. Virtual events will also be held throughout the week. Proceeds from Market Noel go back into the community through the JLB’s 40 community projects benefiting women and children in need.
